Steps to fix: Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. you may need to restart your computer.

First of all, make sure, that you logged on an account with local administrator privileges.
Open your command prompt. (Run as Administrator)
Type: “net stop wuauserv”
Hit Enter
Type: “ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old”
Hit Enter
Note: The "C" drive is assigned to the main hard disk partition that contains the operating system and system files, your Windows OS may installed in a different driver...
Type: “net start wuauserv”
Hit Enter
That’s all, check for windows updates. (You may need to restart your computer)
